Comparing the reported facts to the map..

Return to Crash Site

The eye witness to the crash reports that the aircraft flew in from the south west before it crashed. This confirms that the aircraft flew in from Stuttgart. The War Office states that the aircraft just missed a strip of pine forest 170mrs long and 20mrs wide. There is an exact strip adjacent to Gaitenhof. In the field next to this on the satellite image, there is a distinct ground Impact? anomaly showing.

How close?

Flying time from Stuttgart to Gaitenhof is approx 7 minutes. (less than 40kms)

The Air ministry also reports that the bodies of the dead crew were buried in the cemetery at Seckselberg. This is less than a mile from the site at Gaitenhof.

A is Rudersberg (in Reg's diary called Rudesberg). He walked there from Gaitenhof. (He says 8 miles - correct).

B is for Gaitenhof (or Gallenhof as described by the War Office records). This is certainly a translation/transcription error. Reg also reports that he walked south west. This is also confirmed. So is his timescale and the Miles/kms he claims to have walked fit perfectly with the map.

Reg Favager's report is solid and reliable!
