Reg's diary, an important historical document, describes the crash near Stuttgart in the early hours of 16.3.1944 and life in the prisoner of war camp at Fallingbostel from February to April 1945. A copy, transcribed by another former PoW, Mr. Gordon Hemmings, in the 1990s is in the Imperial War Museum in London (the original remains in the possession of his daughter Mrs. P. Thomas of Rock Ferry). The document runs to 5 closely typed pages.

Reg Favager retired from the RAF with the rank of Warrant Officer, the highest enlisted rank!

Sgt Reg Favager 1131906

Sgt Reginald Favager was the Signaller from Lancaster A4-K and along with Lawrence Casey was the other survivor from the stricken aircraft. He parachuted from the burning Lancaster.

He was captured with Lawrence and together they shared imprisonment in Germany.

Reg survived the war and died in Manchester in 1980.

Double Tragedy

Astonishingly......Victor (Reg's brother) flying in a Lancaster, was shot down on the same day, on the same raid, but sadly, he didn't survive the crash. Even more stange, Both Reg and his brother were flying on board brand new lancasters which had never flown operationally before. Actually, ND681 was only delivered to 100 sqdn from the factory 4 days before the first operational flight!
