Having reviewed the YMCA War diary of Lawrence Casey, I am amazed at the real quality of the poetry produced by the prisoners.
I am not aware of the origin of all of the verses, some will certainly have been written by Lawrence himself , but there are some obvious differences in style.
Some are very poignant indeed. especially considering they were written by some very young men in a very unusual situation. (See They fly by night).
What does strike home is the feeling that they knew they were most certainly on the winning side and that victory was just over the horizon. There is a definite feeling of superiority over their captors. (see the count at Stalaf Luft 6)
